Kindred is a members-only home swapping platform that unlocks the ability to live a travel-rich lifestyle through the power of community. By exchanging primary residences with trusted peers, renters and owners alike can match with Kindred spirits and explore new destinations without breaking the bank.
Kindred is revolutionizing the “third option” of travel accommodation, compared to short-term rentals and hotels. Since launching in 2022, Kindred has grown to a global community of 300,000 members across 150+ cities and puts home swapping on the map as a radically more affordable, responsible, and connected way to travel.
To support that momentum, Kindred has raised over $150M in capital from some of the most credible investors in Silicon Valley, including Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz, New Enterprise Associates, Bessemer Venture Partners, Caffeinated Capital, Elad Gil, and founders of companies like Opendoor, Figma, ClassPass, and more.
Kindred’s co-founders are proven leaders from the early team at Opendoor ($15B+ exit), who have each built and scaled products that today generate $1B+ annual revenue combined.
We’re looking for the world’s top builders, executors, and believers to help us make travel more meaningful.

At Kindred, our mission is to make a travel-rich lifestyle more accessible through the power of community. As Controller, you’ll play a critical role in building and scaling Kindred’s accounting function, ensuring financial accuracy, strong controls, and efficient close processes as the company grows.
You’ll report to the Head of Finance and work closely together to transition accounting operations from an outsourced model to an in-house function. This is a highly hands-on, high-autonomy role for an experienced accounting leader who enjoys building from the ground up — establishing scalable processes, owning the details, and serving as a trusted partner across Finance and the broader company.
This role is ideal for a self-starter with deep private-company accounting experience who has seen companies scale from early to later stages and is energized by rolling up their sleeves to build a best-in-class accounting foundation.
In your first 3–6 months, success in this role looks like:
You’ve successfully transitioned core accounting activities from outsourced providers to an in-house model
Monthly close is predictable, well-documented, and completed on a consistent timeline
Accounting policies, processes, and controls are clearly defined, documented, and scalable
Financial statements are accurate, timely, and trusted by Finance leadership
You’ve built strong working relationships with FP&A and cross-functional partners
Key risks, gaps, or inefficiencies in current accounting practices have been identified and addressed
You’ve implemented process improvements that reduce manual work, improve accuracy, or prepare the function for scale
As Controller, you’ll take ownership of Kindred’s accounting function and play a hands-on role in building the systems and processes that support the business. You’ll:
Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
Lead the transition from outsourced accounting to an in-house model, including knowledge transfer, process redesign, and system ownership
Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with US GAAP
Oversee general ledger, revenue recognition, accruals, prepaid expenses, and reconciliations
Partner closely with FP&A to ensure alignment between actuals, forecasts, and financial reporting
Manage relationships with external partners such as auditors, tax advisors, and outsourced providers
Implement and improve internal controls and ensure readiness for audits or future compliance requirements
Support technical accounting questions related to new initiatives, contracts, or business models
Build and improve documentation, close checklists, and SOPs
Collaborate cross-functionally across the company on accounting-related workflows
Help shape the future structure of the accounting function as the company grows
We’re looking for an experienced accounting leader who combines deep technical expertise with a builder mindset. The ideal candidate has:
8+ years of accounting experience, primarily in private, venture-backed companies
Strong command of US GAAP and hands-on experience preparing and reviewing financial statements
Experience supporting companies through meaningful scale, from early-stage through later-stage private company environments
Proven ownership of monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including improving speed, accuracy, and controls
Experience transitioning accounting work from outsourced providers to an in-house function
Experience implementing, owning, or improving accounting systems and infrastructure (e.g., NetSuite or similar ERP)
Experience managing audits and working with external auditors and tax advisors
A hands-on, detail-oriented approach — comfortable doing the work, not just reviewing it
Strong process design, documentation, and organizational skills
A collaborative, low-ego working style with the ability to partner cross-functionally
High ownership, proactivity, and follow-through
Experience hiring or scaling accounting teams over time
CPA or equivalent experience strongly preferred
